One thing to think about as a newly divorced woman with a safe driving record is that your auto insurance premium may reduce. Of course, if you and your ex both had cars and you had a multi-car policy that gave you a discount, you are likely to lose this.

But as a woman, especially one not prone to fender benders or worse, you can expect your auto insurance policy to have a lower premium than your ex ends up with.

Do not believe the hype that goes around about women drivers being dangerous and, therefore, having to pay higher auto insurance premiums. There is some nonsense being spouted about women with young children being distracted when they drive and having more crashes. It is just not true.

Responsible women who put their children into suitable car seats and follow the rules of the road are safer than male drivers of the same age.  Women want to protect their children, not put them at risk by driving like idiots.

So, now that it is just you or you and the children, shop around before you make your selection. Compare the policies offered, the types of cover and the costs. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but there are substantial savings to be made.

One way to sort out the dross is to actually ask for advice and help reducing the cost of your auto insurance policy. This should, at the very least, lead to you getting advice on deductibles and how to best manage these. The company that doesn’t help simply doesn’t get your business.
