North Dakota Auto Insurance Requirements
The North Dakota auto insurance requirements stipulated by law are:
* Bodily injury: $25,000 per person (the maximum amount payable to one person)/$50,000 per accident (the maximum amount payable to all people injured in one accident).
* Property damage liability: $25,000 per accident.
* Uninsured motorist coverage: $25,000 per person/ $50,000 per accident.
* Underinsured motorist coverage: Underinsured motorist coverage must be equal to the uninsured motorist coverage.
* Basic no-fault (aka Personal Injury Protection or “PIP”): $30,000 per person.
Please note that these are minimums required by North Dakota state law, not suggested coverage amounts. The simple fact is, each state’s minimum requirements are typically inadequate to sufficiently cover your costs should you be involved in a major accident. The shortfall will have to be made up out of your own pocket. Obviously, having to pay this difference could easily destroy one financially. Therefore, it is highly recommended to get much higher coverage amounts. Consult pages elsewhere on this site for recommendations in this regard.
