Missouri Auto Insurance Requirements
The Missouri auto insurance requirements stipulated by law are:
If you are the owner or operator of a motor vehicle in Missouri, you are required by law to insure that automobile with:
1) coverage of at least $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident for injuries you cause to another
and
2) $10,000 for property damage.
Missouri’s Department of Revenue is keeping tabs on drivers to ensure they maintain their liability insurance policies. Should you allow your coverage to lapse, you’ll be subject to suspension of the vehicle’s registration and possibly your driver’s license.
Please note that these are minimums required by Missouri state law, not suggested coverage amounts. The simple fact is, each state’s minimum requirements are typically inadequate to sufficiently cover your costs should you be involved in a major accident. The shortfall will have to be made up out of your own pocket. Obviously, having to pay this difference could easily destroy one financially. Therefore, it is highly recommended to get much higher coverage amounts. Consult pages elsewhere on this site for recommendations in this regard.
