Alaska Auto Insurance Requirements
The Alaska auto insurance requirements stipulated by law are:
$50,000 for injury liability for one person in an accident; $100,000 for all injuries in an accident
$25,000 for property damage in an accident
Failure to have the proper insurance may result in a suspension of a driver’s license. Insurance is not required in areas where registration is not required. The list of these locations is shown on the state’s website (see link below).
Please note that these are minimums required by Alaska state law, not suggested coverage amounts. The simple fact is, each state’s minimum requirements are typically inadequate to sufficiently cover your costs should you be involved in a major accident. The shortfall will have to be made up out of your own pocket. Obviously, having to pay this difference could easily destroy one’s financial situation should they be sued in such cases.
