71. Third Party
The claimant under a liability policy. So called because the person making the claim is neither the insured nor insurer, in the insurance contract. A third party claim is any demand made by someone against a policyholder of another company and any payment that is to be paid out by that company.
72. Tort
Legal term used to describe situations where an individual is found legally responsible for injuring another person or damaging another's property. Some states ask you to choose a tort provision. In these states, you can limit your right to sue for non-monetary damages (like pain and suffering) in return for a reduction in premiums.
73. Towing and Labor Coverage
Reimbursement coverage for towing expenses when your auto must be towed to a repair facility or another location due to damage or it not being drivable.
74. Towing Coverage
Optional coverage that pays a fixed amount toward towing should your vehicle break down or if it becomes disabled due to an accident.
75. Umbrella Liability Insurance
A policy above and beyond your other coverages which kicks in should you be sued for amounts greater than your auto insurance policy's liability coverage. Usually, you must also have a set amount of liability coverage, such as combined between your auto and homeowners policies, before you may purchase an umbrella policy.
76. Underinsured Motorist
Akin to Uninsured Motorist coverage, this type of insurance pays for bodily injury sustained by a covered person resulting from an accident with an at-fault driver who does not have enough insurance to pay for the injuries.
77. Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage
This coverage is available in some states (where it is often mandatory). This kind of coverage pays for your medical expenses, lost salary, and other losses when you or your passengers are injured in an accident caused by a driver without sufficient auto insurance. This coverage generally pays the difference between the coverage limit you choose and the other driver's bodily injury coverage limit. The amount covered by underinsured motorist bodily injury is capped at the limit you select when you purchase your policy.
78. Underwriting
The process of evaluating risks for insuring a policyholder and determining what amounts and on what terms the insurance carrier will agree to the risk.
79. Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage
This coverage is available in some states where it's often mandatory. It pays for medical expenses, lost salary, and other general losses sustained by a covered person due to an accident with an at-fault driver who is uninsured or in hit-and-run scenarios. The amount covered by uninsured motorist bodily injury is capped at the limit you select when you purchase your auto insurance policy.
80. Uninsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage
This coverage is available in certain states where it's usually mandatory. This coverage protects you in the event your vehicle is damaged in an accident caused by a driver without auto insurance. Other protection afforded by this kind of vehicle insurance varies state to state. The coverage amount is capped at the limit you select when you purchase your car insurance policy.
