21. Defensive Driver / Driver Improvement Course
Courses offered to drivers which consist of defensive driving techniques for all drivers as well as "mature driver safety courses" designed for drivers age 55 or over. You may be eligible for an auto insurance discount in certain states should you be within the eligible age range and you have completed one of these courses.
22. Depreciation
Depreciation refers to the decline in a your auto's value due to age, wear and tear, or obsolescence.
23. Effective Date
The date your auto insurance policy's coverage takes effect. Always make special note your policy's effective date becuase you aren't covered by auto insurance before this date.
24. Emergency Road Service
Virtually all insurance carriers now offer emergency roadside service. Sometimes these plans fall under different names such as "motor club" or "roadside assistance". Essentially, these plans provide you with help in a variety of roadside situations. Basic roadside emergency services typically include: towing, tire changing, fuel/oil/water delivery, and lock-out services. Trip interruption coverage and other travel planning benefits may also be included with varying cost limits.
25. Endorsements
Commonly referred to as "riders", endorsements are modifications to the original insurance contract. Such endorsements may include altering your deductibles or adding a new vehicle to your policy.
26. Exclusions
Situations not covered by a specific auto insurance policy. Exclusions specific to your coverage will be listed within your auto insurance policy.
27. Extraordinary Medical
Coverage sometimes a part of Personal Injury Protection or First Party Benefits plans. This coverage protects you in the event of accident-related injuries requiring serious and/or long-term medical treatment. Extraordinary medical coverage begins after you've exhausted the limit on your regular medical benefits coverage.
28. First Party Benefits
A type of optional vehicle insurance coverage offered in Pennsylvania. Depending on whatever particular FPB coverages you choose, in the event you are injured in an accident, FPB covers you and relatives residing in the same household for medical expenses, lost income, accidental death, and/or funeral costs. The coverage is capped at limits you choose when purchasing your policy.
29. Full Coverage Auto Insurance
While there is actually no such thing as "full coverage auto insurance", some will frequently use this phrase to describe the amount of auto insurance coverage they are carrying on their policy. The term "full coverage" typically suggests that the policyholder carries other types of coverage in addition to just liability coverage.
30. Funeral Benefits
This coverage is sometimes included in your policy's Personal Injury Protection or First Party Benefits plans. Should a covered individual die due to accident-related injuries, this coverage kicks in to cover part of the funeral expenses, regardless of whoever may be at fault. Covered costs are limited by whatever limits you select when you purchase your policy.
